The Senate of SEBI School of Islamic Economics (STEI SEBI) held an open session to inaugurate new undergraduate and master's students for the 2024/2025 academic year. The event took place at SEBI Hall on Monday, September 9, 2024, and was presided over by Sigit Pramono, Ph.D., CA., CPA., the Chairman of the College Senate.
This ceremony is part of the campus introduction program (Propeka) themed “Shaping Future Leaders in Sharia-Based Economic Development Towards an Equitable Golden Indonesia.”
Dr. Sepky Mardian, S.E.I., MM., SAS., the first academic vice-chair of STEI SEBI, presented the academic report for the inauguration of new undergraduate and master's students. He began by inviting everyone present to express gratitude to Allah SWT for the blessings that allowed them to attend this special event.
“We believe today marks an important moment for our new students after going through the admission selection process. Let us consider this day a significant milestone as we look toward the future. Welcome to STEI SEBI, and may you thrive in your pursuit of knowledge,” Dr. Sepky stated in a release received by Milenianews.com.
He continued by noting that, at 26 years old, with 23 years of undergraduate education and its first year of the master's program, STEI SEBI has welcomed 350 new students from various regions of Indonesia, representing 27 provinces.
“With the addition of these new students for the 2024-2025 academic year, the total number of active students now stands at 943. This includes 168 students in the Sharia Accounting program, 114 in the Sharia Banking program, 367 in the Sharia Business Management program, 161 in the Islamic Economics Law program, and 133 in the Master's in Economics program,” he explained.
Dr. Sepky also highlighted that in 2023, STEI SEBI graduated 256 alumni, and in the 2023/2024 academic year, 232 students completed their final projects, bringing the total alumni count to 2,685. He added that this year, the institution received approval and accreditation for its master's program from the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia and the EMBA Independent Accreditation Agency.
“We are proud that our faculty has published a total of 212 scientific publications over the last five years, with 27% being international and 73% national publications. Additionally, faculty members have published over 44 books,” he noted.
In concluding his report, Dr. Sepky expressed gratitude to the donor institutions that have provided educational scholarships to STEI SEBI students. He encouraged all new students with a few wise words: “Whoever embarks on a journey to seek knowledge, Allah will make their path to paradise easier” (HR. Muslim). He also quoted a saying, “Man Jadda Wa Jada,” meaning “Whoever strives, will achieve.”
“Be diligent in your studies; remember that the time you have to learn here is limited, and your quality will depend on your individual efforts. May you all become beneficial graduates for society, the nation, and the state,” he concluded.
In his remarks, Sigit Pramono, Ph.D., the chairman of STEI SEBI, welcomed and appreciated the guests and the new students. He urged the new 2024 cohort to clarify their intentions to become resilient Muslims with sound beliefs, correct worship, and to embody the characteristics of those with understanding, as described in the Quran. “Being a student is a privilege that not all young Indonesians have the opportunity to experience,” he said.
