Depok, November 4, 2025 — The greatest challenge young researchers face today is not just writing scientific articles but also finding the right and reputable journals to ensure their works are academically recognized. To address this need, the SEBI Research Center (SIBERC) hosted an inspiring event titled “Seminar on Journal Selection Strategies for Scientific Publication,” held online with high enthusiasm from participants across Indonesia.
The seminar, conducted in early November, featured Ahmad Baehaqi, S.E.I., M.Ak., SAS., ACPA, the Executive Director of SIBERC, as the main speaker. He shared profound insights on the stages of scientific publication, tips for choosing credible journals, and strategies for avoiding predatory journals that often trap novice researchers.
“Publication is not just about writing and submitting articles. It involves strategy, ethics, and the ability to evaluate journal credibility to ensure our work has a genuine scientific impact,” Ahmad Baehaqi explained during his presentation.
The event attracted 74 participants who registered via Google Forms, representing various regions in Indonesia. Participants included faculty members as well as undergraduate and graduate students from IAI SEBI who hold a keen interest in scientific publication strategies. Throughout the session, active participation was evident with numerous questions and interactive discussions covering journal selection, SINTA-Scopus indexing, and practical tips to prevent article rejections by editors.
In his talk, Ahmad Baehaqi outlined key steps in the publication process from submission, revision, to acceptance, accompanied by concrete examples from his experiences publishing in reputable national and international journals. The presentation emphasized the importance of:
- Checking journal indexing directly on official sites like Scopus, DOAJ, or SINTA.
- Analyzing the frequency of journal publications and acceptance rates before submitting articles.
- Preparing manuscripts with a clear IMRAD structure, relevant citations, and proper referencing styles.
This applied and field-based approach increased participants' confidence and provided concrete guidance for future scientific publications.
Positive feedback poured in from attendees. Many participants expressed that they gained valuable insights from the seminar. “The training was excellent and broadened my perspective. I now understand better how to select the right journal for publication,” remarked one student. Another participant added, “The material was very applicable and relevant to our needs. I hope similar events can be held regularly.” Several attendees expressed interest in advanced topics such as international publication strategies or publishing life hacks.
Some participants noted that the speaker's relaxed yet substantial delivery, supported by real-world publishing examples, enhanced their learning experience. They hoped future seminars could incorporate hands-on practice sessions and topics on practical publication strategies or international article writing.
Through this seminar, SIBERC at Institut SEBI demonstrates its commitment to nurturing intelligent, ethical, and globally competitive young researchers. The training not only equips attendees with technical knowledge but also fosters an understanding that scientific publication is part of the academic responsibility to maintain integrity and impact.
“We aim to assist students and faculty not just to write, but to place their works on the appropriate scientific stage,” concluded Ahmad Baehaqi.
This seminar is hoped to be a starting point for more Indonesian academics to be brave in creating, publishing, and contributing to the advancement of knowledge.
