Depok, September 30, 2024 – Sekolah Tinggi Ekonomi Islam SEBI (STEI SEBI) has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing Islamic education in Indonesia by successfully hosting a workshop focused on the curriculum for the Islamic Education Study Program (PAI). This workshop, part of the launch for the PAI program, was conducted in person in the second-floor meeting room at STEI SEBI in Depok. Attendees included education practitioners, professionals, and government representatives, all of whom contributed to the design of a relevant and sustainable curriculum for Islamic education. Notable figures present included:
Dr. Aang Mahyani, M.Ag from Kopertais West Java,
Sigit Pramono, Ph.D., CA., CPA, Chair of STEI SEBI,
Dr. Ahmad Irfan Mufid, M.Pd, Head of PAI at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, and
Dr. Rahmat Syehani, representative from Nurul Fikri.
In his opening remarks, Sigit Pramono emphasized that this initiative is a tangible effort to educate the nation through quality education, particularly in the field of Islamic Education. "This is a simple yet significant step forward for education in Indonesia," he stated.
Dr. Aang Mahyani, representing Kopertais II West Java, stressed that the establishment of the PAI program would not detract from the core essence of Islamic education already present at other institutions. He also noted that the SIMPRO PAI program from the Ministry of Religion would provide initial insights and guidance for the establishment of the study program. "We at PTKIS Kopertais fully support the launch of the PAI Study Program," he asserted.
Dr. Sepky Mardian provided guidance on STEI SEBI's initial steps toward becoming an Islamic Institute (IAI) and highlighted the Faculty of Tarbiyah as a hallmark of the new PAI program. He expressed hope that the materials presented during the workshop would serve as a strong foundation for developing a curriculum that meets contemporary needs.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ahmad Irfan Mufid, Head of the PAI program at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, discussed the principles of sustainable curriculum development for PAI. He emphasized the importance of efficiency, flexibility, relevance, and the philosophical and sociological needs within the curriculum. He also stated that PAI graduates must possess both general and specific skills to remain relevant to the needs of madrasahs, schools, and society.
During the discussion, Dr. Rahmat Syehani from Nurul Fikri highlighted the necessity of student profiles that align with the goals of PAI education, specifically the cultivation of morally upright students. He stressed that PAI educators must possess adequate competencies to effectively teach Generation Z and Alpha. Dina Farihani added, "PAI should be a solution to the challenges of daily life, not merely a collection of legal rules and Islamic principles, but also a deep application and understanding." She cautioned that the challenges faced by Generations Z and Alpha require special attention from educators, particularly PAI teachers, who must have the skills and expertise to navigate these dynamics.
Thus, the PAI Curriculum Workshop aims to make a significant contribution to the development of Islamic education in Indonesia, addressing the challenges and needs of future generations.
