Depok, May 29, 2024 - The Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH) in collaboration with the Islamic Economics College (STEI) SEBI held a seminar titled "Let's Perform Hajj at Young Age" with the spirit of realizing the dream of performing the Hajj pilgrimage. With the theme "Realize the Intention, Plan While Young, and Perform Hajj While Strong," this event aimed to educate students about the importance of the Hajj pilgrimage and the "Let's Go for Young Pilgrims" program initiated by BPKH.
The event was attended by Harry Alexander, SH, MH, LLM, a Member of the BPKH Executive Board, who opened the seminar along with Sigit Pramono, Ph.D, the Chairman of STEI SEBI. They emphasized their commitment to the "Let's Go for Young Pilgrims" program and issues related to Hajj economics and finance.
More than 200 students, lecturers, and education staff from STEI SEBI participated in this seminar. Harry Alexander explained that BPKH is the largest ummah financial institution in Indonesia, managing Hajj funds of around 140 trillion rupiahs belonging to pilgrims, as well as an eternal ummah fund of around 3.8 trillion rupiahs. The results of the eternal ummah fund, around 250 billion rupiahs per year, are channeled throughout Indonesia for the benefit of Muslims, including educational scholarships. "The Hajj ecosystem and Hajj economy contribute to the welfare of the Indonesian people in this way," Harry elaborated.
However, Harry also addressed the need to refute hoaxes surrounding BPKH. He affirmed that Hajj funds are not depleted and can be withdrawn at any time, and that the funds are not used for infrastructure but are invested in safe Sovereign Sharia-Compliant Securities (SBSN) that contribute to the welfare of the community.
The seminar also featured Juni Supriyanto, Deputy Director of Fundraising at BPKH, Ana Hastuti, RCEO of Jakarta East Bank Muamalat Indonesia, and Dr. Ai Nur Bayinah, Lecturer at STEI SEBI. Juni Supriyanto emphasized the importance of young pilgrims, given the dominance of high-risk pilgrims.
This event became a momentum to inspire and pave the way for young people to plan their Hajj pilgrimage better, as well as to strengthen BPKH's efforts in supporting the ummah in fulfilling their religious obligations.
