Jakarta, June 4, 2025 —
The Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia has officially handed over the Decree (SK) recognizing the transformation of the Sekolah Tinggi Ekonomi Islam SEBI (STEI SEBI) into Institut Agama Islam SEBI in a formal ceremony held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Jakarta on Wednesday (June 4, 2025).
The event was attended by representatives from ten Islamic private higher education institutions (Perguruan Tinggi Keagamaan Islam Swasta/PTKIS) across the country. Five of these institutions also received similar decrees marking their transition from a college (Sekolah Tinggi) to an Islamic institute, reflecting a growing momentum toward quality enhancement and institutional development within Indonesia’s Islamic higher education landscape.
The official decree was personally delivered by the Director General of Islamic Education, Prof. Dr. H. Suyitno, M.Ag., to Dr. Sigit Pramono, CA., CPA., the newly appointed Rector of SEBI Islamic Institute, who was accompanied by other IAI SEBI executives.
In his remarks, Prof. Suyitno expressed his appreciation for STEI SEBI’s contribution over the past two decades to advancing Islamic economics education. He emphasized that the institutional transition presents a strategic opportunity to broaden academic offerings and reinforce the role of IAI SEBI in shaping globally competitive Muslim intellectuals.
Dr. Sigit Pramono conveyed gratitude for the government’s trust and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to academic excellence. “With Allah’s permission and the support of the Ministry, we are committed to developing SEBI Islamic Institute into a center of excellence in Islamic economics and modern Islamic studies,” he stated.
The decree handover ceremony also included the signing of supporting documents and a brief dialogue session between Ministry officials and the leadership of SEBI Islamic Institute. The event proceeded in a solemn yet optimistic atmosphere.
With the issuance of this official decree, IAI SEBI is now authorized to open new study programs in a wider array of Islamic disciplines and to expand its network of national and international collaborations.
