Depok, November 13, 2025 — A poignant and grateful atmosphere filled the opening of the Open Senate Session for the 20th Graduation Ceremony of Institut SEBI for the 2024/2025 Academic Year. This event coincided with the 27th anniversary of Institut SEBI, marking over a quarter-century of the institution’s contribution to Islamic higher education. The graduation ceremony, held at the Garuda Building PPSDM Kemendikdasmen in Depok, was presided over by Rector Sigit Pramono, Ph.D., CA., CPA., as Chair of the University Senate. Approximately 171 graduates from four study programs participated in this special occasion, themed “Intellectual Humanity: From Learning to Awakening.”
This year’s graduation took on added significance as it coincided with the 27th anniversary celebration of Institut SEBI, reaffirming the institution’s role in nurturing a generation of knowledgeable, ethical, and impactful Muslim intellectuals. Among the attendees was Dr. M. Asmeldi Firman, Ak., M.M., CA., BKP., Chairman of Yayasan Bina Tsaqofah, the governing body of Institut SEBI, who delivered the opening speech at the event.
In his address, Dr. Asmeldi shared valuable insights for the graduates, encouraging them to become ethical and moral advocates for the Islamic economy. He recounted the inspirational story of Abdurrahman bin Auf, a companion of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW), who exemplified the principles of Islamic economic struggle.
“Upon migrating to Medina and leaving all his wealth behind, Abdurrahman bin Auf asked the locals, ‘Where is the marketplace?’ From there, he established his economic endeavors and became a key supporter of the Islamic mission,” Dr. Asmeldi recounted.
He continued, “This story teaches us that a just economy is not merely about numbers but also about hearts and consciences. This is where Islamic finance plays a crucial role as a trustworthy driver of the economy, ultimately aiming to achieve community welfare.” Dr. Asmeldi also advised the graduates to continuously develop their adaptability skills as they transition from academia to the workforce. The professional world demands mental preparation, discipline, and integrity rooted in Islamic values.
In conclusion, he reminded the graduates not to forget the contributions of their parents and the donors who played a significant role in their educational journeys. “Behind the gown you wear today, there are individuals who are the happiest behind the scenes—your parents,” Dr. Asmeldi concluded, filled with emotion.
